I was really not ready for Pisces season to end this year. I was so enjoying its sweet and tender vibes. Was happy to spend several more weeks just floating in the gentle sway of its waves. Content to remain in its dreamlike flow.
I won’t lie, I was irritated to see posts on social media about Aries season and the Equinox. Especially those announcing that spring had sprung a good 20 hours before the Sun had even entered Aries. It all felt so rushed, like we were ushering Pisces off the stage before it had time to finish its speech.
I just kept thinking like, why are we so eager to move on to the next thing, before we’ve had a chance to complete the current thing? Why are we always so quick to launch forward? Why are we so obsessed with planning ahead?
What’s wrong with where we’re at right now?
Instead of prepping for tomorrow, why aren’t we living for today? Diving deeper and deeper into each moment as it happens, and soaking up every last drop of this lived experience.
Of course, it is possible to do both. We can find a balance in being prepared for the future, while finding presence in the now. I’m sure many of you are doing exactly this. I know I’m capable of it.
But I haven’t been doing it.
And I think that’s part of what irked me so much about the early Aries season posts. They held up a mirror, and showed me a person whose head and heart have been so focused on tomorrow, they rarely get to enjoy today.
Even while I was sinking into the slowness of Pisces energy, I was still preoccupied with thoughts of what lay beyond Aries season and the upcoming Eclipses. I joked on Threads that I would just hibernate until the Sun moved on to Taurus - which was maybe just as bad, if not worse, than folks welcoming Aries season before its time. Instead of skipping ahead by 20 hours, I was ready to skip ahead by 30 days.
Some of this is “just” an occupational hazard. Many Astrologers spend a lot of time thinking about, well, time. And if you’re an Astrologer who writes forecasts, that time is often future time. Between client consultations where we discuss transits, content creation for social media, podcast scripts, and this newsletter, I spend a lot of time considering the future.
Lately, I’ve been feeling so out of time. Ahead of time. Never on time or in the moment. I spend so much time looking ahead, I’ve forgotten how to see and be with what’s right in front of me.
Lately, I’ve been craving a little more presence.
The teaching assistant in an Astrology course I’m currently taking, recently said “slowness is often the pace of presence - the pace of pleasure.” These words struck a chord so deep within me. They jumped off my computer screen and infused into my whole being. I keep seeing them swirling in my belly and around my heart, scintillating with every move, as though written in glittery ink.
They feel so vibrant and alive and right. They feel like home. They feel like purpose.
All of this leads me to share that I've decided to start moving slower. To move with more presence. To bring my head and heart back from the future, and stop writing forecasts. At least for now. At least on a collective level.* I’m feeling a disconnection from my practice, and to a lesser but still noticeable extent, my love for Astrology in general.
My focus has been so directed towards how things might play out that I often don’t get a chance to see how they actually do. The times I’ve been most connected to my practice, the most on the mark about how Astrology will manifest, is because I’m already living it, and connecting the dots as I move.
*Which means, yes, I’m still forecasting for individuals. My Cosmic Cycles reading is still available, and on sale right now!
Now, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop writing about Astrology. This newsletter isn’t going anywhere, except for in a new direction. If you’ve been following my work for a while (first of all, thank you, I appreciate you) then you’ll know these evolutions are pretty par for the course with me.
That might have something to do with my natal Pluto (a planet of transformation and change) sitting in my first house (of self and identity), forming a sextile (a cooperative and encouraging aspect) with the degree of my MC (a point in the chart related to career and public identity.)
This type of aspect (conversation in the chart) suggests a professional life or life purpose that undergoes periods of rebirth and renewal every so often. Thanks to the supportive nature of the sextile, these rebirths are typically ones that I find ease in welcoming. They tend to help me take my life and its direction to deeper, richer, more powerful places.
Above is the chart of Oprah Winfrey, who has her MC degree in Libra. Her Mercury in Aquarius as well as her Jupiter in Gemini, are forming trines with her MC in Libra. The trine aspect is the most helpful kind of aspect. It represents the potential for opportunity and talents, and can point towards areas of life that tend to flow easily.
The Mercury-MC trine speaks to Oprah’s career having so much to do with conversation and the sharing of ideas. The Jupiter-MC trine speaks to the success of her career, but also the larger than life quality it took on for a period of time. I also can’t help but think of “you get a car, and you get a car, and you get a car!” And the generosity and abundance she often shared with her viewers and fans.
To dig deeper into your own MC placement, look to its planetary ruler and consider the topics associated with that planet.
If your MC degree is in…
Aries or Scorpio - your key career planet is Mars
Taurus or Libra - your key career planet is Venus
Gemini or Virgo - your key career planet is Mercury
Cancer - your key career planet is the Moon
Leo - your key career planet is the Sun
Sagittarius or Pisces - your key career planet is Jupiter
Capricorn or Aquarius - your key career planet is Saturn
Once you know your career planet, look to where it’s placed in the chart. What house and sign is it in? What aspects does it make with other planets or angles? This information can help you start to build an understanding around your career path and life’s direction. It could be validating if you’re already settled into a career, or it could be eye opening if you’re looking for guidance in that area of life.
Above is the chart of Kurt Cobain, who had his MC degree in Gemini. This is symbolic of a life direction where communication would be a central theme. Mercury would be his career planet, and it’s placed in Pisces, a combo that often speaks to a very lyrical and poetic style of communication. So, we can start to see where the inclination towards songwriting is present in the chart.
These are just very basic examples, but I hope it’s inspired you to look closer at your own career profile through the lens of Astrology. I would love to hear about your MC placement and how you feel it’s showing up for you, or what direction it’s guiding you towards. If you’re open to sharing, leave a comment below!
